On September 27, the National Promotion Meeting for Industry-Education Integrated Training of Outstanding Engineers was held in Beijing. Central South University was officially approved as a construction unit for the National Outstanding Engineers College.

Outstanding engineers are a vital force driving engineering innovation and human progress, as well as key talent support for advancing Chinese modernization. Establishing the National Outstanding Engineers College is a concrete measure to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instruction to “cultivate a large number of outstanding engineers.” It also serves as a critical step to deeply integrate innovation, industrial, and talent chains and accelerate new industrialization.

In December 2023, Central South University established its Outstanding Engineers College. Aligning with major national strategic needs, the college builds on the university’s distinctive, world-leading disciplines in nonferrous metals, medicine, and rail transit. It collaborates with leading new energy enterprises (the “CSU family”) such as BYD and GEM, as well as large central SOEs including China Minmetals and Aluminum Corporation of China. This drives interdisciplinary integration, forming clusters like “New Energy & Energy Storage Engineering +” and “Artificial Intelligence +.” On this basis, it expands higher-level, broader interdisciplinary groups to achieve coordinated development between emerging and traditional 优势学科.

Upholding its mission to “cultivate talent for the Party and the nation,” the college strives to develop a world-class engineer training system with Chinese characteristics. It aims to nurture outstanding engineers who are patriotic, dedicated, highly innovative, and skilled at solving complex engineering problems, contributing “CSU’s strength” to building a strong nation in education, science and technology, and talent.
