To deepen the collaborative education mechanism of industry-education integration and guide faculty and students to serve the construction of a "Manufacturing Powerhouse," on May 19, 2025, the college organized faculty and student representatives to conduct a "Safety Escort, Intelligent Manufacturing Future" themed exchange activity at the Xiangtan Municipal Emergency Management Bureau and Hunan Valin Xiangtan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. Vice Dean Chen Ailiang and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Zhu Zhongping of the college led over 30 master's and doctoral student representatives to participate. Xi Xiaogang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Xiangtan Municipal Emergency Management Bureau; Shen Yunhui, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director; and Ma Lichun, Director of the Production Management Department of XISCO Group, accompanied and participated in the exchange.

Technology Strengthening Safety: Xiangtan Smart Emergency System Sets a Benchmark for Safety Assurance

At the Xiangtan Municipal Emergency Management Bureau, the faculty and student team conducted in-depth research and study on the city's safety assurance systems and innovative practices in the field of smart emergency management. The activity was chaired by Comrade Shen Yunhui. Director Xiao Can systematically introduced the technical architecture of the "air-space-ground integrated" monitoring network and the flood control smart unmanned platform. Section Chief Su Weimin demonstrated on-site the multi-department collaborative command functions of the visualized integrated management system. These cases demonstrated the application value of new-generation information technology in emergency management, inspiring faculty and students to closely integrate technological innovation with practical application scenarios.

During the exchange session, faculty and students discussed topics such as mobile terminal principles and the collaborative mechanism of "human defense + material defense + technical defense" in emergency rescue. Comrade Xi Xiaogang pointed out in his remarks: "The air-space-ground integrated prevention and control urgently needs talent in big data, automation control, and other fields to promote the upgrading of emergency management toward precision and intelligence." This viewpoint triggered in-depth reflection among attending faculty and students on interdisciplinary cultivation and career planning.

Digital Intelligence Empowerment: XISCO Builds a Global Steel Industry Intelligent Manufacturing Model

At the XISCO Industrial Park, faculty and students conducted field inspections of digital transformation achievements such as the 5G digital twin platform and the intelligent production line of the Gao Four Line Plant, witnessing the enterprise's leapfrog development from traditional manufacturing to smart factories. Regarding the digital twin platform application, a key technology, XISCO Group has successfully achieved critical breakthroughs in process optimization; in green development, the Group has formed a low-carbon production model with demonstrative value. These practical achievements not only demonstrated the transformation and upgrading pathway for traditional steel enterprises but also provided valuable practical cases for research in related fields.

Subsequently, Dr. Zhang Guozhu, a young researcher from XISCO, shared the industry's urgent demand for interdisciplinary talent and his personal work experience based on his own career growth. He advised graduate students to clarify their career positioning as early as possible and align their dissertations with industrial needs. Director Ma of the XISCO Production Management Department further pointed out that the steel industry is currently undergoing a paradigm transformation from "quality control to cost control," and universities need to break disciplinary boundaries.

At the exchange meeting, faculty and students conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as digital twin platform construction, differences between laboratory research and industrial production, and carbon emission detection. Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Zhu Zhongping stated in his remarks that the college's disciplines and programs are highly aligned with XISCO's transformation direction, and future university-enterprise deep cooperation will be promoted. Professor Chen Ailiang, Vice Dean of the college, proposed that the college can achieve integrated advancement of "industry-university-research-application" through measures such as jointly building engineer technology centers and joint laboratories with XISCO Group, delivering more outstanding engineer talent with both innovation capabilities and engineering literacy to the industry.

This research activity built a bridge for faculty and students to gain in-depth understanding of industrial practice, enabling them to personally experience the cutting-edge dynamics of intelligent manufacturing transformation and accurately grasp the core competency requirements for modern engineering technical talent. It provided important reference for the college's continuous optimization of the outstanding engineer cultivation system and deepening of the industry-education integration collaborative education mechanism.
