On the morning of September 27, the China-Indonesia (hereinafter referred to as "China-Indonesia") Elite Engineers College Construction Work Symposium was held at the Beijing Jianguo International Conference Center. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, Vice Rector of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesia; Kaihua Xu, Chairman of GEM Co., Ltd.; Kun Zhang, Senior Vice General Manager; Pengyun Xu, Vice General Manager of PT. QMB New Energy Materials; Rizky Wanaldi, Assistant to the General Manager; Dao Li, Vice General Manager of SANY Group Asia-Pacific Regional Division; Zhihong Li, Vice President of Central South University; Wei Sun, Dean of the Graduate School; Qiongwen Cheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Metallurgy and Environment; Lihua Zhan, Dean of the School of International Education; Qingchuan Shen, Vice Dean of the Graduate School; Qiang Chen, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; and Ailiang Chen, Vice Dean of the National Graduate College For Elite Engineers, attended the meeting. They conducted in-depth discussions on the college's construction planning, cooperation pathways, and future development. The meeting was chaired by Wei Sun, Dean of the Graduate School of Central South University.
In his address, Vice President Zhihong Li expressed his hope to leverage this opportunity to integrate the resource advantages of Chinese and Indonesian universities and enterprises, using the university's "Double First-Class" disciplines as the foundation to build a deeply integrated "industry-university-research-application" training system. Through innovative models, the college will cultivate outstanding engineers possessing both engineering capabilities and cross-cultural collaboration competence, writing a new chapter in Belt and Road educational cooperation, injecting core momentum into Indonesia's industrial upgrading and sustainable development, and making positive contributions to the friendly cooperation between the two countries.
In his remarks, Vice Rector Lavi Rizki Zuhal stated that the Bandung Institute of Technology highly recognizes Central South University's outstanding achievements in engineering education. He pointed out that ITB attaches great importance to in-depth cooperation with Central South University and looks forward to jointly exploring engineer training standards that meet Southeast Asian industrial needs. He mentioned that Indonesia is currently in a critical period of industrial transformation and urgently needs high-end engineering and technical talent. The joint construction of this college will build an important platform for talent cultivation, academic exchange, and career development for the youth of both countries.
In his speech, Chairman Kaihua Xu pointed out that the Indonesia Class jointly established by Central South University, the Indonesian government, and GEM Co., Ltd. has trained more than 250 students, becoming a benchmark project for Belt and Road educational cooperation. He stated that the enterprise will rely on the tripartite co-built "China-Indonesia Joint Laboratory for New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology" and other industrial bases in Indonesia to continuously provide internship and practical training support for the college, promote the transformation of scientific research achievements and targeted talent cultivation, and assist in the sustainable development of Indonesia's new energy industry.
Vice Dean Ailiang Chen introduced the college construction plan in detail. The college relies on three disciplinary chains: non-ferrous metals, rail transit, and medical science, integrating first-class disciplines such as metallurgical engineering and materials science and engineering. In collaboration with the Bandung Institute of Technology and relevant enterprises, it will create a new international student training system integrating "course learning + scientific research practice + industrial internship," forming a new talent cultivation pathway with multi-country, multi-university, and multi-enterprise collaborative participation, providing host-country talent support for Chinese enterprises "going global."
In the concluding remarks, it was pointed out that the "China-Indonesia Elite Engineers College" project is an innovative exploration of education "going global" and an elevation of the university's successfully established tripartite collaborative talent cultivation model of "host-country government + Chinese university + outstanding Chinese overseas enterprise." It is necessary to flexibly adjust mechanisms on the basis of existing cooperation, taking into account the educational policies and industrial needs of both countries. The core goal of the college is to cultivate high-quality engineering talents for Indonesia in the field of resource development, while relying on enterprises' overseas industrial layouts to serve the international development of Chinese enterprises. The college strives to become a benchmark project for Belt and Road educational cooperation. It is hoped that the five cooperating parties will take this symposium as a starting point, improve the formulation of relevant charters, and refine supporting plans for degree evaluation and enterprise collaboration, injecting new momentum into China-Indonesia educational and technological cooperation.
The convening of this symposium marks the entry of China-Indonesia university and enterprise cooperation in the field of engineering education into a substantive advancement stage, providing a practical example for the construction of a Belt and Road education community, and will also open a new chapter in the deep integration of educational technology and joint talent cultivation between the two countries.
