On the afternoon of November 6, the 2025 Working Conference of the International Innovation Alliance for Green Metallurgical Development was grandly held in Changsha. Representatives from 23 top universities, scientific research institutions and well-known industrial enterprises around the world attended the conference, which was presided over by Professor Ailiang Chen, Vice Dean of the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, Central South University.
The metallurgical industry is an important foundation of the national economy and a pillar of industrialization. Faced with the new situation of comprehensively promoting high-quality development and accelerating green and low-carbon transformation, the alliance will continue to uphold the development concept of "innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing", take scientific and technological innovation as the core driving force, deepen the integration of industry, university, research and application, and strive to serve the green, low-carbon and sustainable development of the global metallurgical industry, helping to realize the high-quality transformation of the metallurgical industry.
At the conference, Pengyun Xu, Deputy General Manager of GEM Co., Ltd., delivered a speech. He reported the remarkable achievements made by GEM as the chairman unit of the alliance in innovative cooperation and talent training over the past year. He said that GEM will devote itself to the international innovation work of green metallurgical development with a new look of openness, confidence and inclusiveness, actively participate in the construction of the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, and contribute more to the development of green metallurgy in China-Indonesia and even the world.

Professor Qinmeng Wang, Vice Dean of the School of Metallurgy and Environment, Central South University, made an annual work report on the alliance. Over the past year, the alliance has made a series of substantial progress in international exchanges, platform construction and talent training, including a series of exchange activities carried out by alliance member units, taking the lead in co-constructing the China-Indonesia Elite Engineer College, establishing the China-Indonesia Joint Laboratory of New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology, and organizing undergraduates to carry out overseas internships for the first time.
Subsequently, the conference conducted in-depth exchanges around the effective paths of in-depth integration of industry and education under the university-enterprise collaboration model, the quality evaluation and continuous improvement system for the cultivation of elite engineers, and other themes. Jianhong Yi, Vice President of Kunming University of Science and Technology, Lihua Zhu, Deputy Director of the Nonferrous Metals Industry Talent Center, Xiaoming Xi, Secretary General of Hunan New Materials Industry Association, Jiang Zhengxin from Seoul National University of South Korea, Imam Santoso from Bandung Institute of Technology, Rahimova Shahnoza from Tajikistan Metallurgical Institute, Zhang Wang, Dean of the Hydrogen Energy Research Institute of Sany Group Co., Ltd., and others successively put forward valuable suggestions and opinions on the cultivation of elite engineers and the construction of the alliance.

It is reported that the International Innovation Alliance for Green Metallurgical Development is an unincorporated scientific and technological international organization initiated and established by Central South University and GEM Co., Ltd. in October 2023. It aims to promote in-depth exchanges and cooperation among alliance member units in talent training, scientific and technological innovation and social services, meet the new needs of the industry for international high-end talents and cutting-edge technologies, and realize the high-quality development of the global nonferrous metal metallurgical industry.
After the conference, the participating experts were invited to attend the academic exchange at the sub-venue of Intelligent Metallurgy and Advanced Materials of the 2025 International Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperation Conference. The conference was hosted by the Center for School Planning, Construction and Development of the Ministry of Education, undertaken by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education and Central South University, and co-organized by the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, the School of Metallurgy and Environment of Central South University and other units.
