On June 11, the closing ceremony of the 2026 "Science and Technology Talents Program" training class of Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO) was held in Jingui Building, Xiaoxiang Campus of Central South University, presided over by Chen Ailiang, Vice Dean of the National College of Outstanding Engineers. A total of 61 core researchers from various subsidiaries of CHALCO completed all training modules and graduated successfully.
Cheng Qiongwen, Party Secretary of the National College of Outstanding Engineers and the School of Metallurgy and Environment of Central South University, Vice Dean Chen Ailiang, together with Professors Peng Zhihong, Li Qunming, Zhang Hongliang and Yang Congren attended the ceremony and presented graduation certificates to all trainees.

Launched on June 2, the ten-day training adopted an integrated model combining special lectures, group seminars and field visits. More than a dozen top experts covering metallurgy, mining, automation, mechanical engineering and materials science were invited to deliver 12 high-level thematic lectures, with over 60 associate and full professors participating in group discussions. Distinguished scholars including Academician Zhao Zhongwei of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor Li Jie, Yangtze River Scholar, delivered keynote reports on cutting-edge topics such as innovative thinking, green, low-carbon and digital-intelligent aluminum electrolysis, new quality productive forces, alumina production technologies, deep rock mass mining, intelligent mining, mineral processing and metallurgy, smart metallurgical plants, intelligent robots, recycled metal resources and industrial software. Covering key segments across the non-ferrous metal industry from mining and mineral processing to smelting, and from automation to intelligent upgrading, the curriculum effectively broadened trainees’ industrial horizons and updated their knowledge frameworks.

During the training, participants were divided into six groups based on research focuses: environmental governance & analytical testing, alumina, electrolytic aluminum, metallurgical smelting, mineral resources, and automatic control. They held in-depth face-to-face exchanges with university professors and specialists, and visited national-level research platforms including the State Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy and the National Engineering Research Center for Heavy Metal Pollution Control to experience the dynamics of scientific and technological innovation through on-site observation.

At the closing presentation session on the afternoon of June 11, 12 groups took turns to showcase their achievements integrating what they had learned with on-site work practices. Review experts scored each group on content quality, innovation and logical presentation, and three Outstanding Teams were selected in the end. Twelve outstanding trainees were awarded based on comprehensive performance including attendance, classroom engagement and participation in seminars throughout the training period.

At the closing ceremony, Party Secretary Cheng Qiongwen congratulated all trainees on completing the training and expressed sincere admiration for their dedication. He remarked that the intensive and substantive training required trainees to attend sessions day and night without weekends, yet they maintained full enthusiasm and delivered high-quality learning outcomes and final presentations. Their diligence and perseverance demonstrated the solid professional competence and admirable spirit of CHALCO’s core research workforce. He encouraged trainees to apply newly acquired knowledge and advanced concepts to their posts, maintain long-term ties with Central South University, and jointly advance technological innovation and high-quality development of the non-ferrous metal industry.

Trainees shared that they gained tremendous insights from the program. Apart from systematic learning of cutting-edge technical theories, they built connections with industry experts and peers. They pledged to translate their learnings into concrete technological breakthroughs and make greater contributions to corporate innovation.

This training marks another successful collaboration between Central South University and CHALCO to deepen university-enterprise cooperation and jointly cultivate outstanding engineers. Both sides will continue all-round cooperation in technology R&D, joint research platform construction and talent training. With closer partnerships and tangible collaborative achievements, they will synchronize technological research and talent cultivation, injecting sustained momentum into the high-quality development and self-reliance in science and technology of China’s non-ferrous metal industry.
