On November 13, 2024, to improve the training quality of outstanding engineering talents and advance the construction of outstanding engineers colleges, a 13-member delegation headed by Yue Desheng, Director of the Postgraduate Education Division of Henan Provincial Department of Education, paid an inspection visit to our college. The group also included Zhang Shixun from Zhengzhou University, Huo Hua from Henan University of Science and Technology, Chen Junjie from Henan Polytechnic University, Liu Haichao from North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Liang Hui from Zhengzhou University of Light Industry and other officials. Sun Wei, Dean of the Graduate School of Central South University, Deputy Deans Dai Wujiao and Shen Qingchuan, Guo Kehua, Director of the Postgraduate Enrollment Office, as well as Chen Ailiang and Liu Fangyang, Deputy Deans of the National Outstanding Engineers College attended the forum, which was presided over by Vice Dean Chen Ailiang.

At the opening of the meeting, Vice Dean Chen Ailiang extended a warm welcome to all guests and gave an overview of the college. She introduced that leveraging the universitys distinctive strengths in non-ferrous metals, medicine, rail transit and other disciplines, the college has established in-depth cooperation with leading new energy enterprises including BYD and GEM, as well as large central enterprises such as China Minmetals and Aluminum Corporation of China. It promotes interdisciplinary integration and builds clusters featuring "New Energy & Energy Storage Engineering +" and "Artificial Intelligence +", striving for coordinated development of emerging disciplines and traditional preponderant disciplines.

Yue Desheng delivered a speech and clarified the purpose of the visit. He stated that higher education in Henan Province is faced with challenges such as large scale yet insufficient core competitiveness and inadequate high-quality educational resources. Currently, Henan is fully pushing forward the Double First-Class construction, giving full play to the advantages of equipment manufacturing and food processing industries. Based on local key enterprises, Henan plans to set up a number of outstanding engineers colleges by drawing on national construction standards, so as to steadily elevate talent training quality and boost local economic and social development.

Dean Sun Wei elaborated on the founding background and development course of the college. He emphasized that talents cultivated by the university in the new energy sector enjoy outstanding competitiveness nationwide and globally, and intelligent upgrading of various disciplines cannot be achieved without interdisciplinary integration with artificial intelligence. Centering on new energy and artificial intelligence, the college features interdisciplinary development and in-depth school-enterprise collaboration. All research topics are derived from actual demands of enterprises and national strategic needs, enabling students to make progress by tackling real-world problems and realizing in-depth integration of science, industry and education. He stressed that senior researchers from scientific institutions should serve as academic supervisors and enterprise platforms be used as practical training bases, so as to cultivate top-notch outstanding engineering talents for various industries.

During the interactive session, the visiting delegation raised questions and had in-depth discussions on school-running modes, curriculum design, practical teaching and tutor team building, which were answered in detail by representatives of our university.

In his concluding remarks, Dean Sun Wei said the visit fully reflects Henans great attention to higher education and outstanding engineer training. As a major province with solid foundation in non-ferrous metal industry, Henan boasts sound industrial conditions. He expressed sincere hopes for bilateral cooperation to jointly elevate the training work of outstanding engineers to a new level.
