Since being approved as a construction institution for national outstanding engineers colleges on September 27, 2024, the college has vigorously advanced educational innovation and interdisciplinary integration to build a high-caliber engineering talent training system. Rooted in its distinctive and world-leading disciplines including non-ferrous metals, medicine and rail transit, the college has teamed up with key industrial enterprises to foster interdisciplinary and industrial clusters centered on "New Energy +", "Artificial Intelligence +" and related fields. Solid progress has been achieved in improving training systems, expanding school-running premises and strengthening teaching staff.
New strides in talent cultivation
A special team has compiled the Trial Guidelines for the Training of Engineering Masters and Doctors covering the whole training process, consisting of seven sub-guidelines including those for enterprise research project database development, dual-tutor team building and core curriculum construction. The college has optimized postgraduate training programs and built featured joint curricula with enterprises, and released the 2025 enrollment brochure. Delegations have paid study visits to peer outstanding engineers colleges of Zhejiang University, Southeast University, Chongqing University and other institutions, further improving the talent training system and laying a solid foundation for fostering outstanding engineers.
New momentum in faculty development
The college has built a dual tutor team: on-campus tutors led by renowned scholars and young backbones, and off-campus tutors composed of distinguished alumni and industrial experts. It boasts 165 on-campus tutors including 128 senior professors, 28 associate professors, 9 lecturers and 61 high-level talents, plus over 260 off-campus tutors. College leaders attended the 3rd training program for school-enterprise tutors, focusing on training standard formulation and tutor team development. The college also organized Party spirit education activities in Zunyi to integrate ideological education with professional training.
New strengths forged through industry-education integration
The college hosted the Low-carbon Metallurgy & New Energy Materials Sub-forum of the 2024 International Industry-University-Research Cooperation Conference, exchanging latest research findings and development trends to deepen collaborative innovation. Its representatives attended the main conference held in Chongqing and shared Hunan’s fruitful achievements in international industry-university-research cooperation. It also successfully held the 17th Hunan Postgraduate Innovation Forum (Metallurgy & Interdisciplinary Sub-forum), focusing on new materials and intelligent metallurgy. Representatives from more than 20 enterprises including State Grid, Baowu Group, Sany Group and Sinosteel have visited the college for exchanges.
New expansion of school-running facilities
Universities and enterprises have jointly improved supporting facilities for joint teaching, scientific research and daily life. Leaders from the Ministry of Education have visited the college to offer guidance, optimize learning and practical training conditions and accelerate infrastructure construction.
Upholding the mission of fostering talents for the Party and the country, the college will keep exploring a world-class engineer training system with Chinese characteristics. It aims to cultivate outstanding engineers who are patriotic, dedicated, innovative and capable of tackling complex engineering problems, and contribute to building China into a strong country in education, science and technology, and talent development.
