On the morning of December 29, 2024, the 5th Alumni Congress of Central South University Alumni Association was held in the lecture hall of the Science and Education Building. Lan Yong, Deputy Director of Hunan Provincial Department of Education, all university leaders in service, person-in-charges of alumni associations at home and abroad, alumni representatives, heads of relevant functional departments and secondary colleges, totaling over 300 participants attended the meeting. Academician Chai Liyuan, Dean of our college, Zhu Zhongping, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee and other college leaders and staff were present at the congress.
The congress reviewed the work report of the 4th Council of the Alumni Association, elected members of the 5th Council, and held the first meeting of the newly-elected council. Yi Hong, Secretary of the University Party Committee, delivered a welcome speech, and Li Jiancheng, President of the university, addressed the meeting as the newly appointed president of the Alumni Association. The event was co-chaired by Jiang Jianxiang and Fu Ganghua, Deputy Secretaries of the University Party Committee.
At the meeting, Secretary Fu Ganghua delivered a council work report entitled Unite for Progress, Rally Strength for Innovation — Strive for High-Quality Development of Alumni Work. He elaborated on the follow-up plans for alumni participation in the construction of national Outstanding Engineers College, and encouraged alumni-owned enterprises to cooperate with our college in building pilot test bases and industry-education integration innovation platforms, focusing on key fields in urgent national demand to jointly carry out technological research & development and achievement transformation.
As Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee, Executive Vice President and Dean of our college, Academician Chai Liyuan delivered a speech themed Two-way Endeavor, Jointly Forge First-class Development, introducing achievements made in the university’s Double First-Class initiative and contributions from alumni. He presented the university’s progress in discipline development, faculty building and scientific research outputs. Relying on preponderant disciplines, the university has built interdisciplinary clusters such as "New Energy & Energy Storage Engineering +" and "Artificial Intelligence +", and scored remarkable achievements in serving national strategies including deep sea, deep earth and deep space exploration, resources development, building China into a powerhouse in materials, manufacturing, new energy, transportation and health, as well as national economic development and the Belt and Road Initiative. He specially noted that alumni have offered all-round and multi-level support to the university in industry-education integration, school-enterprise cooperation, collaborative innovation and high-caliber talent cultivation, strongly boosting the Double First-Class construction.
Thriving alumni mean a prosperous Central South University; glorious alumni bring glory to the university. Alumni constitute a powerful driving force for the university’s high-quality development, and also serve as a strong backup for our college to advance industry-education integration, integration of science and education, interdisciplinary development, cultivate engineering masters and doctors, and explore new models for outstanding engineering talent training.
