To thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee, and the National Education Conference, deepen the reform of engineering education and teaching, and strengthen the construction of the supervisor team for outstanding engineers, the National Outstanding Engineers College organized and held a supervisor meeting on the morning of January 9. Academician Chai Liyuan, Executive Vice President of the University and Dean of the College, Yan Hongjie, Director of the University Office, Sun Wei, Dean of the Graduate School, Li Qihou, Director of the Department of Scientific Research, Lai Yanqing, Director of the Department of Assets and Laboratory Management, members of the college leadership team, and representatives of university-enterprise supervisors, a total of more than 150 people online and offline, attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Cheng Qiongwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College.
At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary Cheng Qiongwen extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the participating leaders and supervisors. He pointed out that with the high attention of the university’s Party committee and administration, the strong support of various functional departments, and the joint efforts of all supervisors, the National Outstanding Engineers College has entered the fast track of high-quality development. As the first batch of supervisors of the college, everyone should promote the reform of the training of master’s and doctoral students in engineering at Central South University and work together to create the "Central South Model" for training outstanding engineers.
In his speech, Dean Sun Wei pointed out that the establishment of the National Outstanding Engineers College marks a major reform in postgraduate education. The college should strengthen university-enterprise cooperation and do a good job in the training of students through work-study alternation; it should further give play to its advantages, improve the efficiency of interdisciplinary integration, and enhance the new quality productive forces in the new energy and artificial intelligence industries.
Director Li Qihou stated that the construction of the National Outstanding Engineers College is an important way to promote the reform of education, science and technology, and talents, and even more an important strategic means to implement the integration of science and education, industry and education. The Department of Scientific Research will work with the college to do a good job in the integration of science and education, industry and education, and inject strong momentum into the scientific research innovation and talent training of the National Outstanding Engineers College of our university.
At the meeting, Chen Ailiang, Vice Dean of the College, detailed the current development situation of the college from three aspects: the basic situation of the college, the integration of industry and education, and the future prospects. She pointed out that facing the national major strategic needs, the college is based on the distinctive and world-leading discipline system of non-ferrous metals, medicine, and rail transit of Central South University, forming a new school-enterprise collaborative training paradigm for outstanding engineering talents featuring "full-chain design, full-factor allocation, and full-process training", and writing a magnificent chapter of cultivating engineering backbones for the country, supporting the future of science and technology, and forging a peak of talents.
Finally, Academician Chai Liyuan, Dean of the College, expressed his gratitude to the various functional departments of the university and all supervisors for their support, and put forward three important suggestions for the development of the college: first, raise the strategic position, the National Outstanding Engineers College should cultivate talents for the national major strategic needs and promote the high-quality development of the university’s "Double First-Class" construction through interdisciplinary integration; second, innovate mechanisms, make joint efforts in multiple disciplines and fields to form a synergy, seize opportunities, and build a distinctive trinity platform that makes significant contributions to the industry, the country, and society; third, achieve a high degree of integration with enterprises, cultivate outstanding engineering talents, who will feed back teaching and scientific research, and build a spiral progressive industry-education integration community.
This supervisor meeting has gathered a cohesive force for the National Outstanding Engineers College of Central South University. The college will closely focus on national strategic needs, take raising the position, seizing opportunities, and strengthening postgraduate training as the key, continuously deepen the reform of engineering education, strive to cultivate engineers with international vision and outstanding capabilities, and make "Central South Contributions" to building a strong education country, a strong science and technology country, and a strong talent country.
