To help postgraduates of Grade 2025 deeply understand the training requirements for elite engineers, consolidate consensus on development, quickly integrate into the college's training system, and lay a solid foundation for the growth of elite engineers, on January 22, the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, Central South University held a meeting for all students of Grade 2025 in Room 506, Science and Education South Building, Yuelu Mountain Campus of Central South University. Zhongwei Zhao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the college, Ailiang Chen, vice dean of the college, Zhongping Zhu, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, all administrative staff attended the meeting, and all postgraduates of Grade 2025 participated. The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean Chen Ailiang.
Combining his personal experience and industry frontiers, Academician Zhongwei Zhao pointed out the growth direction for the students with sincere words, and put forward three requirements for the cultivation of engineering practice ability: first, recognize the value of practice and deeply understand the key role of enterprise practice in the growth of engineering students; second, cherish the opportunities at the front line, take the initiative to go deep into the production site, and exercise the ability to truly solve problems on the premise of ensuring safety; third, temper practical ability, keep in mind the positioning of elite engineers, and comprehensively improve practical skills during the master's and doctoral stages.
Vice Dean Ailiang Chen elaborated on the training plan, focusing on the requirements for the enterprise practice link. She pointed out that the college implements the "work-study alternation" training model, requiring master's and doctoral students to have cumulative practice time in enterprises of no less than 1 year and 2 years respectively, and fully implements the university-enterprise dual-tutor system. She systematically explained the selection of tutors, preparation for entering enterprises, signing of agreements, process management, and ownership of intellectual property rights, providing clear guidance for students to plan their study and research.
Zhongping Zhu, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, arranged the recent student work, focusing on emphasizing safety management. He reminded the students to build a solid safety line, pay attention to traffic, personal and property safety, and laboratory safety, enhance the awareness of fraud prevention, and abide by the principles of "not trusting easily, not disclosing information, and not transferring money". At the same time, he encouraged everyone to improve themselves during the holiday — master's students should focus on literature sorting and thesis proposal preparation, doctoral students should focus on thesis research and career planning, actively participate in professional practice and voluntary services, and cultivate the feelings of family and country.
Ziyi Li, a doctoral student of Grade 2025, spoke as a student representative and shared her experience in study and scientific research since enrollment. Combining her experience in participating in the national key R&D plan, she took "rooting, exploring and connecting" as the key words, advocating that research should be closely linked to national strategies, laying a solid foundation through theoretical learning and literature accumulation, innovating in exploration, and transforming knowledge in practice. She said that the college's training model effectively connects with engineering practice, and called on the students to pursue scientific research dreams with determination and courage.
In the summary session, Vice Dean Ailiang Chen put forward three hopes to all students: first, keep the original intention in mind, have lofty aspirations, and take the initiative to integrate into the overall national development; second, study diligently, think deeply, practice earnestly, and enhance core competitiveness through the combination of theory and practice; third, be strict with themselves, cooperate and make progress together, and promote each other in the collective. She said that the college will continue to provide high-quality resources and comprehensive guarantees, and hoped that all students of Grade 2025 will take this as a starting point, forge ahead, steadily take the path of growth as elite engineers, and write a wonderful life chapter.
