To thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the National Education Conference, deepen the reform of engineering education, and strengthen the construction of the elite engineer tutor team, on the morning of January 23, 2026, the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, Central South University held a tutor forum in Room 506, Science and Education South Building, Yuelu Mountain Campus. Zhongwei Zhao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the college, Ailiang Chen and Fangyang Liu, vice deans, and more than 70 representatives of graduate tutors attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean Ailiang Chen.

At the beginning of the meeting, Academician Zhongwei Zhao expressed his gratitude to all tutors for their hard work in the initial stage of the college's establishment in his speech. He emphasized that the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers shoulders the important mission of serving the country's major strategic needs and cultivating high-level engineering talents, and put forward three expectations for the tutor team: first, give full play to disciplinary advantages, rely on the university's profound accumulation in nonferrous metals, medicine, rail transit and other fields, deepen interdisciplinary integration, and promote collaborative innovation; second, innovate the integration mechanism, and continuously strengthen the in-depth connection between universities and enterprises in enrollment, training, topic selection, achievement transformation and other links; third, adhere to project-driven, take real engineering problems as the orientation, promote the close combination of scientific research and engineering practice, and cultivate students' practical ability to solve complex engineering problems.

Subsequently, Vice Dean Fangyang Liu systematically introduced the relevant management work of graduate students' on-the-job practice in enterprises. He elaborated on the requirements of cumulative enterprise practice of no less than 1 year for master's students and 2 years for doctoral students under the "work-study alternation" training model, as well as the fully implemented university-enterprise dual-tutor system. The content includes the selection of the responsibilities of the tutor group, the education preparation before and after entering the enterprise, the signing of the tripartite agreement, the on-the-job process management and assessment, and the principle of intellectual property ownership, aiming to systematically forge elite engineering talents through deepening industry-education integration. In addition, he also introduced the progress and plan of the 2026 graduate enrollment work, emphasizing that the selection mechanism will be further optimized, highlighting the orientation of interdisciplinary integration, engineering practice and innovative potential, to attract outstanding students to devote themselves to the country's key fields.

In the discussion and exchange session, the participating tutors, combined with their guidance practice, held in-depth discussions on issues such as students' on-the-job practice in enterprises, university-enterprise curriculum co-construction, engineering case teaching, collaborative topic selection, achievement transformation mechanism and students' innovative ability training. Everyone agreed that it is necessary to further strengthen platform connection and resource sharing, promote two-way empowerment of university and enterprise tutors, and build a closer industry-education integration education community.

In her summary, Vice Dean Ailiang Chen said that the college will always focus on the country's strategic needs, take improving the quality of talent training as the core, continuously deepen the "university-enterprise collaboration, work-study alternation" training model, and promote the college's development to a new level.

This forum further consolidated consensus and clarified the direction, laying a solid foundation for the college to deepen industry-education integration and strengthen university-enterprise collaborative education in the next stage. The college will continue to work hand in hand with all tutors to write a new chapter in the cultivation of elite engineers.
