On January 31, the 3rd Dean Forum of National Elite Engineer Colleges & Interpretation Seminar on Education Accreditation Standards for Elite Engineers was held in Nanjing. Wu Gang, Director of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education;Weiqing Xu, Vice Chairman of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association and Director of the Education Quality Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education; Tongliang Hao, Deputy Director of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education; Yanwei Qi, Deputy Director of China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center; Shubing Yang, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, together with representatives from more than 50 national elite engineer colleges and relevant enterprises across the country attended the meeting.Fangyang Liu, Vice Dean of the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, Central South University, participated in the event on behalf of the College.

In his speech, Director Gang Wu stressed that the training of elite engineers is a major national strategic task. More than three years into the implementation of the elite engineer training reform, a nationwide school-enterprise collaborative education framework has been established, with 50 national elite engineer colleges officially set up. The first batch of engineering master’s graduates have achieved high-quality employment. Moving forward, it is essential to prioritize quality, advance the substantive construction of national elite engineer colleges, launch the accreditation of elite engineer education, accelerate the global development of elite engineer training, strengthen exemplary and leading roles, and accelerate the building of a world-class elite engineer training system with Chinese characteristics.

In-depth discussions on elite engineer education accreditation and other relevant topics were conducted at the forum. Fangyang Liu thanked the Ministry of Education and the expert panel for compiling the accreditation documents, and put forward four suggestions based on the College’s practical experience. First, optimize faculty evaluation mechanisms to enhance adaptability and flexibility for industry-education integrated entities. Second, increase the weight of practical training and shift the assessment focus to frontline enterprise practice. Third, streamline procedural documentation and highlight the depth of industry-education integration and the contribution of engineering practice cases. Fourth, strengthen guidance on technology export compliance and clarify relevant policy boundaries.

In his concluding speech, Deputy Director Tongliang Hao pointed out that remarkable progress has been achieved in the elite engineer training reform over the past four years. All institutions should further deepen their understanding of the reform, face existing challenges in industry-education integration, maintain long-term commitment, and make sustained efforts in strengthening the development of elite engineer colleges, promoting accreditation implementation, improving the degree application mechanism based on practical achievements, and advancing the connection of professional title evaluation, so as to facilitate the high-quality development of elite engineer training.

The event has built an effective exchange platform for elite engineer training and laid a solid foundation for constructing a world-class elite engineer training system with Chinese characteristics. The National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, Central South University will fully implement the spirit of the meeting, further optimize disciplinary layout, deepen school-enterprise collaboration, strengthen whole-process training management, and contribute to national strategic needs and industrial development with the strength of Central South University.
