From December 6 to 8, 2025, at the invitation of Ocean University of China, representatives of teachers and students from the college boarded the "Dongfanghong 3" scientific research vessel to participate in the maritime ideological and political course of "Marine Scientific Expedition Cognitive Practice". This activity set four special topics: "Observing the Waves to Understand Civilization", "Chasing the Waves to Forge the Original Aspiration", "String Melody Nourishes Five Educations" and "Chasing the Light to Respect Virtuous Teachers", integrating theoretical study and practical teaching. It aims to deepen the ideological and political education in colleges and universities in the new era and cultivate more outstanding talents who cherish the blue dream and can shoulder the responsibilities of the times. The Degree and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education and teachers and students from 14 universities across the country participated in this activity.
Sailing into the Deep Blue: Safety Education and Theoretical Foundation
On December 6, the delegation officially boarded the "Dongfanghong 3". First, the crew of the scientific research vessel carried out special fire safety training, explaining in detail the safety norms and emergency disposal procedures on the ship, helping teachers and students systematically master the safety guidelines for marine operations. Subsequently, Professor Chen Chaohui, Executive Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Ocean University of China, gave a special lecture on "Marine Science and Human Civilization", reviewing the origin of marine civilization, looking forward to the trend of marine science and technology, and explaining the strategic significance of deep-sea exploration, laying a solid theoretical foundation for the subsequent scientific expedition practice and guiding teachers and students to establish the awareness of safe and scientific marine exploration.
Approaching the Heavy Equipment: Feeling the Power of National Scientific Expedition
Under the guidance of professional personnel on the scientific research vessel, the delegation of teachers and students visited the navigation area, experimental area and deck operation area respectively, and learned in detail about the high-precision track control system, diversified experimental platforms, deep-sea operation support equipment, etc. They got a close-up view of the advanced performance of the "Dongfanghong 3" as a modern comprehensive marine scientific research vessel, enabling the students to have a preliminary understanding of the scientific expedition process, instruments and equipment, and experimental methods.
Humanistic Observation: Special Lectures Enlighten Wisdom
During the activity, Ocean University of China set up a professional publicity team to carry out multi-dimensional thematic publicity, realizing the integration of liberal arts and science knowledge. Wang Fuxin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism, took "Building a Maritime Power and Realizing Great Rejuvenation" as the theme, explaining the in-depth connection between the strategic value of the ocean and national development; Ning Yan, Deputy Director of the Art Department, took pipa performance as the entry point, interpreting the connotation of marine culture from an artistic perspective; Yuan Yi, Editor of the News Center, shared vivid cases of marine scientific researchers, interpreting the sense of responsibility of "Seeking Truth in the Vast Sea and Serving the Country with a Loyal Heart".

On December 8, all participants lined up on the deck of the "Dongfanghong 3" to attend the flag-raising ceremony. The morning light reflected the blue sea, and the national flag rose slowly with the rising sun, showing the solemn mission of building a maritime power between the vast sea and sky, and laying an inspiring tone for this activity.
Graduate student representatives from various universities gave centralized speeches around the theme of "Chasing Dreams in the Deep Blue, Sailing with Oars". Zhou Mingzhe, a student representative from our college, took "Cherish the Blue Dream, Practice Engineering for the Motherland" as the theme, focusing on the three cores of marine strategy, professional characteristics and university mission, systematically showing the disciplinary advantages and practical achievements of our university in serving the construction of the deep blue, and introduced the training characteristics of the college in interdisciplinary fields such as "Artificial Intelligence +" and "New Energy +", and issued an invitation for inter-university cooperation to brother universities.

The three-day marine scientific expedition cognitive practice activity not only allowed the students to personally feel the vastness of the ocean, but also deeply realized the close connection between personal ideals and national destiny.
